I had one RPG where I made solid progress on my phone, unlocked a bunch of stuff, and then tried to log in from my PC only to find nothing carried over.

I get that, it’s more like quiet frustration than anger. I had a similar issue with a racing game where progress would sync sometimes but not always, which is even worse because you can’t trust it. I remember reading this https://bharatflux.com/cross-platform-or-die-why-79-of-mobile-gamers-refuse-to-stay-on-one-device/ and it explained why this inconsistency feels so annoying — people are used to seamless switching now. One thing I started doing is checking if a game uses real-time cloud syncing versus periodic backups. Real-time ones tend to be more reliable. Also, I make sure auto-sync is actually enabled, because sometimes it’s off by default for no reason. Another tip is to close the game properly before switching devices, since some games only sync on exit. It’s a bit annoying, but it helps. Still, I think this should be handled automatically in 2026, not something players have to think about.
